PSSM2

About PSSM2
PSSM Type 2, also referred to as PSSM2 is a congenital (genetically determined) muscle problem that occurs with a varying number of horse breeds.

Horses with PSSM type 2 do not have the mutation that is specific for type 1. Previously, PSSM type 2 could only be detected by means of a muscle biopsy (taken from the skeletal muscle of the hamstring; N, Semimembranosis), but now there are different genes found responsible for causing symptoms of PSSM type 2. PSSM type 2 is not linked to a sugar storage problem, although glycogen pooling can be seen in a biopsy of a horse with PSSM type 2. This is probably a by-product of an underlying issue.
